Write A Business Plan

The SBA has some great templates for creating a business plan. Access those here:

Choose The Right Business Structure For You

The Secretary of State has great information about this here:

Business Tax Responsibilities

Determine the potential tax responsibilities of your new business with federal, state and local tax authorities. Federal tax obligations are filed through the Internal Revenue Service (https://www.irs.gov/). State tax filings are done through the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts (CPA) (https://comptroller.texas.gov/taxes/franchise/).

Starting An Online Business

If starting an online business, this online Marketplace Seller (https://comptroller.texas.gov/taxes/sales/marketplace-providers-sellers.php) tax information is useful. For questions about local business and property taxes, consult Hood County’s appraisal district or tax assessor-collector (https://comptroller.texas.gov/taxes/property-tax/county-directory/hood.php).

Business Licenses and Permits

while a general business license is not required in Texas, it is important for you to know what permits, licenses, certifications, registrations or authorizations you do need. Here is a Business Permits Office Handbook provided by the Office of the Governor’s Economic Development and Tourism Division.

Business Employer Requirements

if you plan to employ staff, you will need to determine federal and state employer requirements. More information can be found here:
