Schools in Granbury ISD will dismiss classes early on Friday, May 30, 2014, which is the last day of the school year for students. STARS Accelerated High School students will have classes through Thursday, June 5. Elementary and intermediate campuses will dismiss at 11:45 A.M. The middle schools, Crossland Ninth Grade Center, and Granbury High School will dismiss at 1:00 P.M. Buses will transport students home early based on this schedule. Granbury High School senior Ty Robertson, a member of the Granbury FFA officer team, was recently presented the DEKALB Agricultural Accomplishment Award. Robertson received the award for excellence in academics, leadership, and agricultural work experience. The award, which is sponsored by Monsanto Company, celebrates its 67th anniversary this year. Larry Mowry, chief meteorologist with CBS 11 News, was at Acton Elementary School on May 6, 2014, to speak to students about weather systems and to conduct a number of interesting and fun experiments. The experiments included such things as cloud formation (pictured above), the combination of warm air and cold air, and even hail. Mowry also gave the students tips on how to stay safe during bad weather. The visit was organized by the local Tornado Recovery Committee.

The Weatherford College Education Center at Granbury will offer courses required for the Associate of Arts in Teaching degree (AAT) beginning in fall 2014. Students who wish to become certified teachers in Texas can complete the AAT program at Weatherford College and then apply to the Tarleton Teacher Education Program offered on the WC campus or transfer to another university to complete a bachelor’s degree and certification requirements.
